This is indie roundup, a series where I highlight a song from a few up and coming artists that I've stumbled into on youtube, soundcloud, or bandcamp in a short post. Some get just a few thousand listens on their uploads, some a few hundred thousand but they are all artists I think everyone should check out. Lettuce begin -
1. hey mike, i miss you man - fredo disco
First up in this roundup is fredo disco, from Chicago. He posts regularly to his soundcloud (linked) and youtube. Most of his work is just him and his guitar, and sometimes his buddy accompanies him with a cajón. You can also find a nice assortment of covers done by him on his channel, from bands such as The Front Bottoms and Mom Jeans (whom I don't actually listen to, but check em out if you like). A lot of his own lyrics are concrete and based around personal events he is experiencing, which I believe is a common trait of punk/emo songs.
2. dandelion hands - i like you
This is quite a nice song from dandelion hands, who hail from Pennsylvania, active on bandcamp since 2011. Here's another song of his from then - quite a different (but still lofi) sound, but the same kind of feeling: real nice.
I couldn't find much info on the dude, other than that he's from Brooklyn, considers his work post-emo, and owns a pair of fucking cool ass rafs. Some of his stuff is a bit edgy; his soundcloud bio reads "everyone has a dark side I just sing mine." Give him a listen.
4. starry cat - i think you're really beautiful
This album is a one-off for starry cat, from Maryland - he made it to support his friend Caroline, who was in the hospital and in need of surgery. He's better known and performs as Julia Brown. She's featured on Julia Brown's latest album as well (released before starry cat).
Last up is this enigma from Seattle. His latest album features a rather wide range of different sounds. (I also recommend this track.)
